[GDC] Registration Week and Annual General Meeting

Posted by mmugdc on July 11, 2008

That’s over for the registration week, many came, many saw and many registered. During the registration time there were many things available to do and to show new members on what we really do in GDC. First up on the board and card games that Jeff brought over which was most famous on its Blockus where the strategy was to finish your puzzle pieces and making sure others don’t. Many came to watch them play the game and participate in it themselves. There was also a showcase on Assassin’s Creed and that draw a huge crowd making everyone unable to pass the booth.

On the 2nd of July 2008, our club’s AGM was held. The location was XR1001 and scheduled to begin at 7.30pm. But, because some of our high committees were also high committees in other clubs, we had to wait for them to arrive. And as expected, the meeting was delayed and started only at 8pm. Truly Malaysian culture, don’t you think?

Anyway, before the AGM started, we played some game trailers to keep the audience occupied. By 8pm, half of the room was already filled. Then Jay, from the publicity division, broke the silence and started the meeting. A little bit of intro here and there to warm up the crowd, and it was time for the president of GDC, Lee Xing Yao, to give his speech.

So what is there to say about the speech? Well, the president explained about the club structure, the divisions and the current high committees. He also talked about the past activities that the club organized, and future activities that will be held under his command this semester.

After the long and boring speech (no offense), it was game time! Yup, that’s what we do best! So, all the students were divided into 4 groups. Then, every member of the group has to remember the names of all their group members. Those that couldn’t remember were punished. The first group had a go, which is also our president’s group, and ended up with 3 guys being punished, yes, our beloved president included! So we asked them to sit on each other. Let the picture do the talking :

After that, we played, Rock-Paper-Scissors. Nothing much to say about it, so here are the pictures:

Then it was time to get serious again. We went back into the room and listened to a talk by a representative from the game industry. This guy talked about his experiences in games development. Oh yea, did I mention he was involved in the development for the game Second Life? So basically, he has a lot of experience in his field of work. Thanks for his time for sharing it with us.

The last agenda was to select the high committees. The main positions like the President, Secretary and Treasurer were already selected, so what’s left were positions like the Vice President, assistants for Publicity division and Webmaster division, and also for working committees.

The AGM officially ended at around 10.30pm. Refreshments were also provided for everyone. Finally, we like to thank all the students for making this AGM a great success! Thanks everyone! Hope to see y’all in our future activities.
